Phillip Lim at The Upper House

July 5, 2016

Recently, The Upper House Hong Kong welcomed Phillip Lim, Creative Director and Co-founder of 3.1 Phillip Lim and hosted an intimate evening with local fashion insiders to discuss about his brand, style and finding success in Asia.

New York based designer Phillip Lim is a figure in the new wave of Asian-American fashion designers. With A-list clients like First Lady Michelle Obama, Emma Watson, Gwenyth Paltrow and Kylie Jenner, the designer has successfully established 3.1 Phillip Lim as one of the most influential and fast-growing contemporary American brands.

Born in Thailand to Chinese parents, Phillip Lim grew up in Orange County where his mother worked as a seamstress.  While working at Barneys in Orange Country, he unpacked a box of Katayone Adeli merchandise. Immediately taken, Lim called for an interview with the designer and managed to secure himself an internship.

Phillip launched 3.1 Phillip Lim in 2005 with business partner Wen Zhou inspired by the laid-back spirit of modern off-duty dressing. Effortless with just a hint of eccentricity, the Chinese-American designer’s covetable separates are trans-seasonal staples, along with bag icons such as the ‘Pashli’.
