A Chat with Malone Souliers

Malone Souliers is a bold and unapologetically feminine British footwear brand. In the five seasons since its launch, the brand has garnered a global reputation for beautifully crafted collections in the finest skins and materials, and a truly unique and vivid palette of colourways. Already sold in many of the world’s finest stores, the brand has rapidly developed cult status, with a following to match, counting steallar names such as Lupita, Nyong’o, Solange Knowles, Caroline Issa, Cameron Diaz, Gemma Arterton, Jadie Kidd and Sienna Guillory amongst their clients.  We caught up with the team recently to chat about what they are up to in Hong Kong.

Why have you chosen London as the base for Malone Souliers?

The locational advantages being it’s proximity to Italy, where we manufacture, but also the world-leading legacy of Savile Row and Jermyn Street in craftsmanship in craftsmanship and cordwaining.

What is the key to a comfortable heel?

Every single millimetre and variable of it’s conception, but especially the locus of it’s heel and the applicable quality and joinery of it’s materials and components- to list very few.

Is this your first time in Hong Kong? What are you looking forward to see or visit on your trip?

Unfortunately Roy Luwolt and I have an intensely packed schedule with store openings and press days, so we are determined on seeing Hong Kong on our return.

Work takes you around the world, which shoes are you travelling with?

Sneakers in air, my private loot of the current collection in my suitcase.

What are your favourite brands to wear at the moment?

Roksanda, Sacaii, Juun J, By Walid, No 21, Elder Statesman

Who would you like to see your brand collaborate with in 2017?

We are luck enough to already be doing so; Roksanda, Pringle of Scotland, Natalia Vodianova, Sorel, Adam Lippes.

What have been the highlights of Malone Souliers’s journey so far?

Our introduction to the world by Bergdorf Goodman, our first paying customer being Kim Kardashian, our unprecedented year on year growth, Michelle Obama wearing our shoes, our first magazine cover with Zendaya on Cosmopolitan Magazine US, and the quality of a Malone Souliers shoe.

Mary-Alice, do you make your own furniture?

Not any more, but I certainly miss my unturned pear oak work top.
