EAST, Hong Kong’s Christmas Village
Ever since the creation of their Christmas village in 2014, EAST, Hong Kong has worked on its expansion every year. In an effort to bring more focus and awareness to sustainability, EAST, Hong Kong uses materials such as used wine boxes, corks and other things in the hotel that would otherwise be thrown out and wasted. This year, following the aftermath of Typhoon Mangkhut, Hong Kong’s worst typhoon on record, the EAST, Hong Kong team gathered together and got their hands dirty at the Kai Tak tree waste collection area to collect logs felled by the typhoon for their Christmas village. With the help of SPL and engineers from the EAST, Hong Kong team, they were able to reclaim and repurpose the wood.
Students from JCSRS (Jockey Club Sarah Roe School), a school dedicated to children with special needs, put the finishing touches on by painting and transforming the wood into Santa Clauses. The wooden Santa Clauses will be placed into the Christmas village and around the hotel at Feast (Food by EAST) and Sugar (Bar.Dec.Lounge) as part of their Christmas decorations.
Look out for EAST, Hong Kong's Christmas village and upcoming Christmas offer!
